On September 5, 2025, students at Savannah Arts Academy organized a walkout to protest gun violence, coinciding with the anniversary of a school shooting. Around 300 to 400 students participated, marching from the school to nearby Tiedemann Park, where they voiced their demands for action against gun violence and called for legislative reforms, holding signs that read “No more silence, end gun violence.”
Led by Zoe Wagner, president of the school’s Students Demand Action chapter, the protest highlighted the ongoing threat of gun violence in schools. With state representatives present in support, students emphasized the need for effective policies, citing recent shootings and the lack of meaningful legislative progress in addressing gun safety and access. Wagner urged adults in power to confront these issues seriously, declaring, “They’re supposed to protect us…but they refuse to take action.”
