Second Defendant Convicted in Shelby Township Abduction Case

Xavier Chase Gardner, a 31-year-old from Florida, is convicted by a Macomb County jury for his involvement in the abduction, torturing, and robbery of Giovanni Plumaj, which took place two years ago outside a Shelby Township fitness center. The jury deliberated for three hours before finding Gardner guilty on multiple charges, including carjacking and armed robbery, with sentencing scheduled for December 17, where he could face significant prison time.

The shocking details of the case reveal that Plumaj was attacked shortly after a pickleball game and endured threats of violence as Gardner and his accomplices sought to extort money from him. Prosecutors described the horrifying moment when Gardner reportedly threatened, “Give us the money or we’ll burn your d— off,” while holding a torch to Plumaj. The incident escalated as the suspects were captured by police shortly after the abduction, linking them back to a hotel where they had been staying.
