Sheriff’s Gun Accidentally Fired in Wendy’s Bathroom

A Texas sheriff faces no charges after a gun he accidentally left in a Wendy’s bathroom was discharged by a teenager, raising questions about safety and responsibility. Grayson County Sheriff Tony Bennie was in the restroom with his young grandson when he inadvertently left the firearm, which was subsequently fired by a 15-year-old. This incident, witnessed by several customers, prompted immediate calls to 911 as panic ensued in the restaurant.

District Attorney Randy McGinley stated that legal criteria for recklessness were not met, despite the sheriff admitting his mistake. “I made a mistake,” Bennie acknowledges, expressing relief that no one was harmed. The outcome has spurred outrage among some patrons, who believe the sheriff should face consequences. The implications of this event extend beyond mere negligence, prompting discussions about firearms safety protocols among law enforcement officials.
