Sig Sauer Faces Lawsuit from ICE Officer Over Gun Safety

A U.S. appeals court has reinstated a lawsuit against firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer filed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, Keith Slatowski, who sustained injuries from an accidental discharge of his P320 gun. The incident occurred during a September 2020 training drill at a New Castle, Delaware firing range, where Slatowski’s firearm went off after he inadvertently hit the grip while in its holster, resulting in a bullet penetrating his hip.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals criticized the original dismissal of the case, stating that critical expert testimony concerning potential design flaws in the firearm should have been included in the trial. Slatowski, along with his wife, is seeking $10 million in damages. The court’s decision opens the door for a jury trial to consider the safety of the P320 design, raising significant questions about accountability in firearm manufacturing.
