Six Illegal Firearms Surrendered in Cheshire Amnesty

Cheshire Police successfully recover six illegal blank-firing guns during a nationwide amnesty aimed at removing easily convertible firearms from circulation. The operation, which aims to keep such weapons out of criminal hands, has resulted in the surrender of four Retay handguns at Crewe police station and additional firearms at other locations.

Recent findings from the National Crime Agency reveal that certain brands of blank-firing guns can be transformed into lethal weapons using household tools, contributing to serious crimes in the UK. With these firearms now illegal to possess following the amnesty, anyone found with them may face a prison sentence of up to 10 years. Supt Gareth Wrigley expressed that this initiative is a crucial step in maintaining Cheshire’s low rates of gun-related crime.
