Joseph Archer III, a 43-year-old from Springfield, Missouri, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Archer pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2024 after a police pursuit on June 29, 2023, which began when officers attempted to stop his vehicle, resulting in crashes that injured an officer and damaged property.
During the pursuit, officers discovered a stolen handgun, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ammunition in Archer’s possession after he fled the scene on foot. His prior convictions included felony conspiracy to distribute cocaine, highlighting a troubling history of criminal activity. The case was investigated by the Springfield Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, underscoring the serious nature of firearm crimes involving felons.
