Steuben County Inmate Faces Armed Robbery Charges

A Steuben County jail inmate, 22-year-old Zachary J.D. Courtney, has been charged with multiple felonies, including robbery in the first degree and gang assault, following a violent incident last fall in the Town of Dansville. Authorities arrested Courtney on Friday at the county jail, executing an arrest warrant linked to a shocking robbery that involved the use of a firearm to steal property valued over $1,000 while assaulting a victim with at least two accomplices.

According to Sheriff Jim Allard, Courtney faces a total of six serious charges stemming from the September 2024 crime. After an arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Court, he was returned to custody as the case continues to unfold. The rise of crime within correctional facilities raises critical questions about safety and accountability among inmates.
