Supreme Court Approves Regulation of Ghost Gun Kits

The Supreme Court has upheld the federal government’s authority to regulate ‘ghost gun’ kits, which allow individuals to create untraceable firearms. The majority opinion, penned by Justice Neil Gorsuch, highlights the growing concern over the use of these weapons in criminal activities, with the regulation aiming to ensure they are treated like conventional firearms, complete with serial numbers and background checks.

In this landmark ruling, the court’s decision reflects a significant step towards addressing gun violence, particularly as the Biden administration argued the necessity of regulation under existing federal law. While challengers to the regulation, including gun rights advocates, argue it oversteps the regulatory power of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the majority found that the regulation aligns with the Gun Control Act’s framework.
