Students at Thaden School in Bentonville staged a walkout on Friday to protest gun violence, demanding congressional action on assault weapons and school safety. In the wake of the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, the students, organized in just days, gathered at Eighth and Main streets, highlighting the urgency of their cause with powerful messages on their signs.
Among the demonstrators, student organizer Eliza Stewart expressed the sentiment of many, stating, “If I die in a school shooting, leave my body on the steps of Congress.” Fellow students echoed her call for change, insisting that schools should be safe sanctuaries for learning, not places of fear. With plans to form an action club aimed at keeping the conversation alive, these students underscore their commitment to creating a safer future.
