The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has charged three Kansas City men—Alexis Vega-Martinez, Julian Chavarria, and Antonio Lopez-Hernandez—with multiple felonies, citing their involvement in several gang-related shootings that occurred from July 12-13. All three face charges including unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action, with additional property damage charges for Chavarria and Lopez-Hernandez.
Over the course of the investigation, police collected 137 spent shell casings across various crime scenes, uncovering links to a gang known as the 18th Street gang. Surveillance footage and social media posts played a critical role in identifying the suspects, showcasing images of the men with firearms connected to the shootings. The case raises significant concerns over gang violence in the area, prompting continued scrutiny from law enforcement.
