Authorities in Negros Oriental have arrested two men for violating the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) gun ban, bringing the total number of apprehensions to five since the ban started on January 12. One suspect was apprehended at a checkpoint in Bais City with an undocumented caliber .45 handgun, while the other was arrested after the barangay captain reported gunfire in Sta. Catalina, leading to the recovery of a caliber .38 revolver.
Both individuals face serious charges, including illegal possession of firearms, highlighting the concerted effort of law enforcement to maintain peace during the electoral period. The Comelec gun ban aims to ensure a secure voting environment, and compliance is being rigorously enforced across the province as elections approach.
