Michael Lamar Smith-Ellis, 31, of Detroit, and Terrance Tucker, 33, of Phoenix, Arizona, each receive seven-year prison sentences for armed robberies targeting United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carriers. The crimes, committed in September and October 2023, involved the pair demanding USPS master keys, known as “arrow keys,” that allow access to postal mailboxes, enabling them to steal mail for personal gain.
Law enforcement quickly apprehended Smith-Ellis and Tucker shortly after a robbery in Northville, discovering firearms and stolen property in their vehicle, including credit cards and an arrow key. This case highlights the significant threat armed robberies pose to postal workers, prompting intervention from the United States Postal Inspection Service alongside local police departments.
