Uribe’s Innovative Approach Cuts Gun Violence in Syracuse

Pablo Uribe, a 2022 graduate from Harvard’s Kennedy School, effectively addresses gun violence through innovative strategies implemented during his Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellowship in Syracuse, New York. In just two years, his data-driven approach led to a 56% reduction in shooting incidents, reversing a decade-long trend of rising violence in the city.

Uribe emphasizes collaborative problem-solving, engaging local police and community leaders in development workshops rather than imposing top-down solutions. His efforts not only improved public safety in Syracuse but also set the stage for continued success, as he now returns to Colombia to tackle similar challenges in a region grappling with narco-trafficking and violence.
