The U.S. Army is advancing its strategic priorities in the Pacific by establishing two new Multi-Domain Commands (MDCs) to enhance its operational capabilities against increasing Chinese aggression. These commands, named Multi-Domain Command — Pacific and Multi-Domain Command — Japan, are part of a larger initiative that includes additional commands in Europe and at Army headquarters, aimed at overseeing Multi-Domain Task Forces (MDTFs) equipped for operations across all combat domains: land, air, sea, space, and cyberspace.
General Ronald Clark, commander of U.S. Army Pacific, emphasizes that these new commands will allow for a higher authority level and improved coordination for the MDTFs, which have been credited with effective deterrence in regional exercises. With the Army planning to operationalize five MDTFs by 2028, including units focused on critical intelligence sourcing and capabilities such as the Precision Strike Missile and Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon, this transformation marks a pivotal shift in the Army’s posture in a dynamically evolving strategic landscape.
