Utah K-9 Officers to Get Bulletproof Vests After Shooting

A Brigham City veterinarian clinic initiates a campaign to provide bulletproof vests for Utah’s K-9 officers after a recent incident in which a police dog was shot during a call that resulted in the deaths of two officers. With each vest costing around $1,500, the clinic has successfully raised over $3,000 so far through community donations and a GoFundMe page, ensuring that first responders’ canine partners receive the protection they need during dangerous situations.

The initiative comes in the wake of the tragic loss of Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Ofc. Eric Estrada and highlights the increased risks K-9 officers face in the line of duty. The vests will first be provided to K-9 Azula, who was injured during the incident, and another dog named Elvis. Community members like Brad Gledhill, who donated $500 for the cause, emphasize the importance of safeguarding these working dogs, especially in smaller agencies that may lack the necessary funding.
