A key change includes permitting hunters to use rifles and shotguns for taking antlerless deer, traditionally restricted to bucks, a shift designed to manage growing deer populations in overpopulated areas.
In addition to the deer regulations, the plan suggests extending the moose hunting season from six to nine days and expanding the fall archery season for turkeys. The changes follow a request for public feedback, highlighting the state’s need for sustainable wildlife management practices amid climate-driven population shifts. With an estimated 20,000 hunters limited by current laws, these proposals aim to open up new opportunities for the hunting community.
