WA Police Academy Bans Sig Sauer Over Safety Concerns

The Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission has permanently banned the Sig Sauer P320 handgun from training recruits after incidents raised serious safety concerns. This decision follows an October report of a recruit’s firearm allegedly discharging without a trigger pull, injuring both an instructor and a fellow recruit during firearms training in Spokane.

In light of numerous similar claims and ongoing litigation surrounding the P320, Executive Director Monica Alexander emphasized the necessity of prioritizing safety for recruits and staff. The move highlights ongoing debates about the firearm’s safety, with the Sig Sauer P320 being widely adopted by law enforcement and military forces, including the U.S. military’s M17 and M18 variants.
