A 49-year-old man from Wewahitchka has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition, a violation that could result in up to 20 years in prison. The incident occurred as Matthew Pellerito attempted to board a commercial flight in Panama City, where TSA agents discovered an undeclared firearm and a box of ammunition in his checked luggage.
Authorities revealed that Pellerito is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from carrying firearms. His mistake happened while preparing for a camping trip to Oregon, highlighting the serious legal ramifications of such oversights. Sentencing is set for September 18 in Tallahassee, as officials from several agencies including the TSA and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives continue to investigate the case.
