Whatcom County Man Sentenced for Gun and Explosive Crimes

Robert Kent Chase, a 62-year-old resident of Whatcom County, is sentenced to over four years in prison for illegally manufacturing explosives and firearms on his property. Despite his sentence, Chase, a convicted felon prohibited from owning guns, will not spend additional time behind bars due to credit for time served during three years of detention.

The investigation revealed troubling details about Chase’s activities, including the presence of improvised explosive devices, one disguised as a red box that could be remotely triggered. Law enforcement authorities, including the FBI and ATF, uncovered numerous illegally possessed firearms and materials indicating Chase was engaged in producing machine guns and explosives, alarming details that raise serious safety concerns for the community.
