Wisconsin DNR Reveals 2025 Deer Opener Stats

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has released its preliminary report for the 2025 deer hunting season, revealing that a total of 90,671 deer were registered during the opening weekend, marking a 3.9% increase from last year. However, the report also tragically notes a fatality—a 24-year-old hunter suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound while hunting from a tree stand, emphasizing the critical need for firearm safety among hunters.

In addition to the concerning incidents, the DNR reported that license sales remained stable at 777,843, with most hunters opting for gun privileges. The conditions for hunting were mostly favorable, but warmer afternoons and limited snow cover may have affected deer movement. Looking ahead, the DNR anticipates improved conditions for the upcoming weekend, with forecasts predicting snowfall in northern Wisconsin.
