A 35-year-old woman, identified as Christina Miranda, is in critical condition after being shot by police in North Philadelphia early Sunday morning. The confrontation occurred on the 900 block of West Erie Avenue when officers responded to a report of a person with a gun, encountering Miranda with a firearm held to her head. Despite being prompted to drop the weapon and the use of a taser, she fled and allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to fire.
Following the incident, police recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number at the scene. Fortunately, no officers or other civilians were injured. The two responding officers, one with 17 years of service and the other with two years, have been placed on administrative duty as the investigation continues into the shooting and the circumstances leading up to it.
