Police Seize Illegal Fireworks, Drugs in Hollister Bust

Watsonville police, in a significant crackdown, have seized nearly 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks, along with an illegal assault rifle and a kilogram of cocaine, during an ongoing enforcement operation. This investigation, which also involves claims of sales extending beyond Watsonville into Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties, has led to multiple arrests, including a teenager suspected of engaging in the illegal fireworks trade.

The police department emphasizes that only “Safe and Sane” fireworks can be legally sold between July 1 and July 4, with strict regulations in place. Residents are reminded that unlawful fireworks usage can result in citations up to $1,000, and a new effort will utilize drones to monitor compliance. Officials aim to ensure a safe Fourth of July celebration, highlighting the importance of following local laws regarding fireworks.
