The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office has ruled that a deadly officer-involved shooting in Wilkes-Barre last fall was a justified use of force, leading to the closure of the case. The incident occurred on October 6, when police officers shot and killed 43-year-old Omar Jermaine Redditt after he brandished a ghost gun during a response to a domestic disturbance call.
According to District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce, the officers’ lives were in immediate danger, as Redditt, who had prior convictions prohibiting him from firearm possession, pulled a weapon on them shortly after they located him. The investigation concluded that the use of lethal force was necessary given the circumstances of the confrontation, emphasizing the potential risks officers face during such encounters.
